Payroll Specialist / Payroll Accountant

About This Role

The Payroll Specialist runs payroll for the whole company and answers employees' questions about their pay slips. This hands-on, on-site role combines payroll ownership with day-to-day accounting support for Finance and HR, processing full-cycle, bi-weekly payroll for multiple locations across different states and supporting the accounting team with general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle, bi-weekly payroll for multiple locations across different states
• Review and validate timecards, attendance records, payroll adjustments, and employee information
• Process payroll adjustments, manual checks, off-cycle payments, and deductions
• Reconcile payroll reports, maintain accurate records, and prepare payroll-related journal entries
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, including wage and hour regulations
• Process garnishments, tax levies, child support orders, and benefit deductions
• Coordinate payroll tax filings, W-2 processing, and year-end reconciliations
• Maintain accurate payroll data within payroll, HRIS, and ERP systems
• Assist with general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and journal entries
• Support accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) activities
• Assist with month-end closing, financial reporting, and the preparation and review of P&L statements
• Support management with financial reviews, budgeting, and financial analysis, and resolve accounting discrepancies

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on payroll processing experience
• Minimum 3 years of multi-state payroll experience
• Experience independently managing full-cycle payroll
• Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations
• Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
• Proficiency with payroll software, HRIS systems, and Microsoft Excel
• High school diploma or GED
