Payroll Specialist

About This Role

The Payroll Specialist runs payroll for the whole company and answers employees' questions about their pay slips. This role is for a highly skilled professional to join a collaborative, fully remote team, reporting directly to the Director of Payroll.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee end-to-end payroll processing across multiple client accounts
• Ensure accurate and timely payroll cycles, including salaried, hourly, commissions, and bonuses
• Prepare and submit payroll tax remittances, Records of Employment (ROEs), and all statutory filings
• Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation and regulatory requirements
• Review and validate wage calculations, overtime, deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings
• Manage direct deposits and payroll tax filings
• Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly and accurately
• Serve as the primary point of contact for complex payroll-related inquiries
• Prepare payroll reports to support internal reviews, audits, and client reporting needs
• Support payroll system optimization, implementations, and vendor collaboration
• Contribute to policy development and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience
• Strong expertise in Canadian payroll legislation and tax regulations
• Proficiency in payroll software systems and Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills preferred)
• Experience with benefits administration and compliance management
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
• High level of discretion and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Nice to have:

• PCP designation (or working toward certification)
• Demonstrated experience managing multi-client or multi-entity payroll environments
