Our challenge
We are looking for an experienced Payments Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support and improve cross-border payment services between the United States and the United Kingdom. Ideal candidate will provide expertise across payment products, operations, compliance, settlement, reconciliation, risk, and partner management. Working with Product, Engineering, Operations, Compliance, Treasury, and external payment partners, you will help deliver fast, reliable, cost-effective, and compliant USD–GBP payment experiences.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Pittsburgh, PA/Dallas, TX is $115k - $125k/year & benefits (see below).
The Role
Responsibilities:
- Provide subject-matter expertise on USA–UK payment flows and payment rails, including ACH, Fedwire, Faster Payments, CHAPS, Bacs, SWIFT, and correspondent banking.
- Support the design and improvement of USD-to-GBP and GBP-to-USD payment journeys.
- Advise on settlement, cut-off times, payment status, returns, recalls, investigations, and exceptions.
- Define business, operational, and technical requirements for payment products.
- Identify opportunities to reduce payment failures, delays, manual processing, and customer complaints.
- Partner with Compliance, Risk, Fraud, Treasury, Finance, Product, and Engineering teams.
- Support regulatory requirements, including AML, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, fraud controls, and customer protection.
- Monitor payment performance, reconciliation, partner SLAs, and operational incidents.
- Support audits, testing, product launches, and process improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
- Experience in payments, banking, fintech, treasury, or financial services.
- Strong knowledge of cross-border payments between the U.S. and U.K.
- Practical understanding of USD and GBP payment processing, clearing, settlement, and FX.
- Experience with payment operations, exceptions, returns, investigations, and reconciliation.
- Familiarity with payment networks such as ACH, Fedwire, Faster Payments, CHAPS, Bacs, or SWIFT.
- Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to translate complex payment processes into clear business and technical requirements.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with fintechs, banks, remittance providers, payment service providers, or money services businesses.
- Knowledge of ISO 20022, SWIFT messaging, payment APIs, payment orchestration, or transaction-monitoring systems.
- Experience with regulatory, fraud, compliance, or treasury processes in the U.S. and U.K.
