Position Summary

Under the direction of the licensed staff member, the Patient Care Technician gives routine, non – licensed, technical bedside care as a member of the Nursing Team. Staff may receive, secure and transport medications as necessary.

Education:

Patient Care Technician (PCT) Certificate or Nursing Student who has completed fundamentals of nursing, or Patient Care Technician with two years validated experience as documented by job description provided by previous employer.

Assists in procedures/ exams as directed. Obtains necessary supplies, equipment, and/ or personnel as needed. Communicates data by timely documentation and reporting of abnormal or patient status change to RN/LPN.

Patients are identified per guidelines and patient care interventions are provided under the direction of the RN/LPN. Accurately obtains and documents patient assessments according to hospital/ department guidelines.

Complies with regulatory guidelines for work area and professional practice. Communicates patient safety risks to appropriate providers. Performs interventions under the direction of the RN/LPN.
