Patient Advocate Representative

About This Role

This role involves screening self-pay patients at the hospital bedside to determine their eligibility for various governmental and non-governmental programs. The Patient Advocate Representative identifies all potential payor sources, including auto insurance, Workers' Compensation, commercial insurance, private insurance, and TPL, to ensure proper account routing within the Patient Accounting environment. They also assist patients in completing financial statements and applying for eligible benefits.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews with patients and/or family members
• Record and maintain complete documentation of activities performed on accounts while in-house and during the Patient Accounting cycle
• Perform financial clearance functions, including collections
• Cancel accounts that have not had patient cooperation and are not eligible for any programs, and prepare accounts for Financial Assistance review
• Follow up on EES assigned accounts to ensure government application submissions are processed
• Develop working relationships with patients, based on good communication skills, to enable quick processing of accounts with government program eligibility
• Conduct field visits to patient homes for skip tracing and/or assisting patients with documents
• Notify hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff of case screening determinations and outcomes via verbal and written communication

Requirements

• Working familiarity with the rules and regulations pertaining to Federal, State, and County programs
• P/C systems literate, including Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word programs
• Ability to work independently
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as a clear understanding of the English language
• Detail-oriented, with strengths in dealing with multiple facilities, supervisors, and hospital platforms
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with efficiency
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years work experience with Social Services or Hospital Admitting or a related area
• Ability to sit and work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time
• Must be able to walk through a hospital environment, including across broad campus settings and Emergency Department environments, and visit patients at bedside

• Schedule: Wednesday-Friday 11am-7:30pm, Saturday-Sunday 8am-4:30pm
• Travel: Some travel may be required
