Parks and Recreation Administration Intern

About This Role

This part-time, seasonal internship offers a rewarding opportunity to support daily operations, planning, and community engagement within a Parks and Recreation Department during the 2026 summer season. The intern will apply academic knowledge in a practical setting, explore career paths in the field, and expand competencies in administrative management and policy planning.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organization, and execution of community events, workshops, and park programs
• Conduct research on various Parks and Recreation administration related tasks
• Assist with marketing initiatives and community outreach
• Assist with office tasks, data entry, report creation and filing, and maintaining department databases
• Provide courteous and professional service to all program participants, facility users, Cosumnes CSD personnel and the public
• Assist in policy planning and implementation
• Learn the budgeting and planning processes and filing and documentation work associated with it
• Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with other employees, participants, and the public
• Assist with research, material selection, and design alternatives
• Participate in project meetings and the public engagement process
• May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

Important Details

• Schedule: up to 20 hours per week, actual hours may vary
• Contract: part-time, seasonal
• Start date: June 2026 through Fall season 2026

• Most qualified candidates will be invited to an in-person oral panel interview on Thursday, June 4, 2026
• Conditional offer of employment contingent upon successful completion of a State of California, Department of Justice criminal background check
• Conditional offer of employment contingent upon successful completion of a clear tuberculosis (TB) and drug screening
• Documentation verifying legal right to work in the United States will be required upon hire

About the Company

Cosumnes Community Services District serves an estimated 221,000 south Sacramento County residents in a 157-square-mile area. Its award-winning parks and recreation services, including the operation of more than 100 parks, operate exclusively within the Elk Grove area of the District. The Cosumnes CSD provides fire protection and emergency medical services throughout the District, including the cities of Elk Grove and Galt and unincorporated areas of South Sacramento County.
