About This Role

This paraprofessional role supports the Special Education Teacher in delivering high-quality, differentiated instruction to scholars with disabilities. It involves providing individualized and small-group academic support, assisting with IEP implementation, and helping scholars with daily classroom routines and behavior plans. The position suits an empathetic individual committed to creating a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the Special Education (SPED) Teacher in delivering high-quality, differentiated instruction that meets the diverse academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and accessibility needs of scholars with disabilities
• Provide individualized and small-group academic support under the direction of the SPED Teacher, reinforcing instructional concepts, supporting skill development, and helping scholars access grade-level learning
• Assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accommodations, modifications, and individualized support plans as directed by the SPED Teacher
• Support scholars with daily classroom routines, transitions, assignments, and learning activities to promote independence, confidence, and academic growth
• Assist with the implementation of behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supports, helping scholars develop appropriate social, emotional, and self-regulation skills
• Collect and document scholar progress, behavior observations, and instructional data as directed by the SPED Teacher to support progress monitoring and informed instructional decisions
• Create and maintain a safe, structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all scholars feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• Experience working with children or students in an educational, childcare, or related setting is strongly preferred, particularly experience supporting scholars with disabilities or diverse learning needs
• Ability to provide academic, behavioral, and individualized support under the direction and supervision of a certified SPED Teacher
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues
• Patience, empathy, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to supporting scholars with varying academic, developmental, and behavioral needs
• Ability to follow instructional plans, implement accommodations, and maintain consistent classroom routines and expectations
• Basic proficiency with instructional technology and a willingness to learn school-based systems and digital learning platforms
• Openness to giving and receiving frequent, actionable feedback as part of a continuous improvement culture
