About This Role
This night-shift post on the cardiac ward pairs patient care with mentoring new nurses. The Paramedic, also known as an Emergency Care Technician (ECT), Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech), or Emergency Room Technician (ER Tech), assists with tasks such as starting IVs, performing EKGs, monitoring vital signs, and supporting airway management. This role plays a key part in trauma care, CPR, and patient transport, working closely with nurses and physicians during emergencies and utilizing field skills under hospital protocols.
Responsibilities
- Perform clinical procedures including IV insertion, EKG acquisition, and continuous vital signs monitoring under supervision
- Assist with airway management, oxygen therapy, suctioning, and support during advanced airway procedures and resuscitation efforts
- Provide wound care, apply splints, assist with suturing, and respond as part of the team during medical emergencies
- Support patient flow by transporting patients to diagnostic areas or inpatient units and assisting with room turnover and preparation
- Maintain clinical readiness by stocking essential supplies and performing point-of-care testing as permitted by hospital policy
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and EMS personnel to support trauma care, high-acuity patient management, and assist with clinical procedures and transitions of care
Requirements
- Current and valid paramedic license issued by the State of Missouri
- Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current
- ACLS 30 days upon hire and maintain current
- PALS and/or ENPC required 30 days upon hire and maintain current
- Minimum of one year as a paramedic in an EMS or in an acute care hospital setting; E.R. setting preferred
- Non-OB facilities: NRP 30 days upon hire and maintain current
