About This Role
This role involves skilled work in preparing, priming, and painting interior and exterior surfaces, parking lots, and playgrounds. The painter will receive and complete electronic daily work orders and coordinate with other staff as needed.
Responsibilities
- Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting or refinishing
- Make minor plaster and drywall repairs, completing drywall tape joints as needed
- Determine the existing surface and recommend the correct product needed to paint it
- Prepare and mix materials used, including paints, stains, plaster, enamels, and paint or finish removers
- Paint a variety of surfaces, structures, and equipment, including walls, ceilings, trim, furniture, floors, parking lots, and playgrounds
- Repair and repaint surfaces
- Work with other maintenance workers, school officials, and staff to resolve maintenance problems
- Respond to email and complete electronic work orders
- Operate a scissor/boom lift
- Provide and verify invoices in a timely manner, adhering to county spending guidelines
- Complete simple written and electronic reports upon completion of every work order
- Demonstrate skill in use of equipment pertaining to painting and safe practices in the use of all equipment
- Give occasional direction to trades assistants and Facility Coordinators
- Make independent decisions and solve problems related to painting
- Seek supervisor
Requirements
- Considerable knowledge of practices and methods of painting and finishing/refinishing of surfaces
- Proper selection and use of paints, stains, and other chemicals associated with painting, finishing, and refinishing
- Demonstrated ability to rig and work from scaffolds
- Work safely and efficiently with various types of equipment, machinery, and tools
- Maintain and service equipment
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills
- Ability to work on an iPad
- Valid VA driver
- Subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to Policy 5431
- Successfully complete a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Investigation
- Successfully complete a State Police Criminal History Investigation
- Successfully complete a Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation
- Successfully complete a Tuberculosis Screening/Test
