Painter

About This Role

Painting surfaces of equipment is the primary responsibility of this job, along with preparing metal surfaces for paint and operating the blast booth. The role suits a painter committed to providing services on time, on budget, done right, and done safely within an established and growing team.

Responsibilities

• Pour paint into a spray gun and spray specified amount of primer or finish coatings onto prepared surfaces, mixing paint per requirements
• Select paint according to company requirements and match colors of paint following specified color charts
• Regulate controls on portable ventilators and exhaust units to cure and dry paint or other coatings
• Strip grease, dirt, paint, and rust from projects, using abrasives, solvents, brushes, and a sandblaster
• Set up portable ventilators, exhaust units, ladders, and scaffolding
• Operate lifting and moving devices to move equipment or materials to access areas to be painted and/or blasted
• Disassemble sprayer and power equipment, such as a sandblaster, and clean equipment and hand tools, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths
• Mix, stir, and thin paint or other coatings, using a spatula or power mixing equipment
• Clean parts by using a pressure washer that injects a phosphate cleaner into the water stream, then spray the parts with a sealer
• Transport racks containing parts to the paint area to stage for painting
• Work with the painter to set up an even flow of parts and to meet daily department needs
• Assist in the plugging of threads and the masking of unpainted areas
• Understand waste management and cleanup procedures
• Have a basic knowledge of blueprint reading
• Follow schedules provided by the paint lead
• Properly clean and maintain PPE
• Complete necessary safety checks daily
• Control shot blast media levels

Requirements

• High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Auto body degree
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs., bending, crawling, and being on feet for 8 plus hours per workday

OR Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be acceptable.

• Schedule: flexible, including 4 10-hour shifts and 5 8-hour shifts with flexible start times
