Summary

The Financial Clearance Unit Specialist is responsible for identifying the responsible party for payment of services, verifying eligibility and benefits, securing authorizations from insurance companies or finding financial alternatives for patients in order to secure the financial health of Moffitt Cancer Center. This includes analyzing, identifying and resolving barriers, monitoring assigned worklists throughout the day, accurate creation and allocation of policies, accurate submission of clinical information, prompt and effective follow up, exhausting all resources for clearance, understanding of automation processes, effective communication with patients and clinical teams to ensure patients can timely receive the care needed and the center is reimbursed for services rendered.

Minimum Education Level:

High School Diploma/GED

Minimum Experience Required:

  • A minimum of one (1) year recent patient registration, insurance verification and/or insurance pre-certification/authorization with a healthcare provider or insurance company.
  • * In lieu of one (1) year recent patient registration, insurance verification and/or insurance pre-certification/authorization with a healthcare provider or insurance company, a minimum of (3) years in a customer service role, within or outside of the healthcare industry.

Preferred Experience

  • For Infusion team, experience in scheduling, registration or related functions in a Chemotherapy setting
  • For Radiation Therapy, experience in scheduling, registration or related functions in a Radiation Therapy setting
  • For Surgical, experience in scheduling, registration or related functions in a surgical setting
  • For BMT, CAR-T, Clinical Trials, experience in scheduling, registration or related functions in one of these settings
  • For Full Verification, experience in insurance verification and knowledge of insurance networks and contracting
  • For FCU Hotline Team, experience working in a call center environment
  • HFMA Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) certification is a plus

Preferred Skills/Specialized Training

-Proficiency with Microsoft Office - Word, Outlook and Excel.

  • Knowledge of guidelines and authorization process for commercial and government insurances
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills
  • Be assertive, highly motivated and be able to work independently
  • Possesses excellent Time Management and Organizational Skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills (speed and accuracy)

Salary Range

$16.66 - $23.43

Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among Team Members in similar positions.
