Operator Control Room

About This Role

Operating and monitoring critical systems within a cement plant is the core of this role, ensuring continuous and safe production. You will be the eyes and ears of the operation, making real-time decisions that impact safety, product quality, and overall plant performance.

Responsibilities

• Follow all Cemex, OSHA, and MSHA safety guidelines and use proper PPE at all times
• Operate digital control systems and manage material flow through raw milling, kiln burning, clinker cooling, and storage processes
• Monitor systems and respond appropriately to alarms or irregularities to ensure operational stability
• Conduct testing of raw materials and finished product to meet quality standards; report issues immediately
• Assist with minor repairs, maintenance tasks, and plant troubleshooting
• Maintain accurate logs and daily performance records across various instruments and systems
• Train other employees as needed and support department meetings and initiatives
• Keep the control room and adjacent work areas clean and organized

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Language skills commensurate with education
• Mathematical skills commensurate with education, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, area, and volume
• Reasoning skills: able to recognize potentially hazardous situations, understand instructions given by supervisor, possess common sense
• Four years of general plant experience or six years of cement plant experience if joining from outside the company
• Proficiency in control systems and computer applications
• Strong communication skills
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to read diagrams
• Mathematical ability related to production measurements
• Strong decision-making and safety awareness

Important Details

• Safety First: Wearing protective equipment and adhering to safety protocols is a must
• Dynamic Environment: Work in outdoor and indoor environments, with exposure to physical labor and harsh conditions (extreme heat, humidity, extreme cold, noise, dust)
• Physical Requirements: Frequent walking, standing, sitting, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally). Requires clear verbal communication and the ability to hear alarms and radio communication. Must be physically able to perform all essential job functions, including the ability to communicate verbally using a phone and radio, to hear verbal commands and audible alarms in order to safely operate around large mobile equipment and automatic conveyor belt systems. Must be able to pass a physical exam to include back x-ray, vision test, hearing test, functional capability evaluation, respiratory fit test and drug / alcohol screen.
• Schedule: Varying shifts as needed, which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs
