Operational Technology Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an Operational Technology (OT) Infrastructure Engineer to support the design, deployment, administration, and troubleshooting of secure technology infrastructure within OT, industrial, utility, and critical infrastructure environments.

This is a hands-on technical role that combines network engineering, Windows systems administration, industrial networking, OT infrastructure, and cybersecurity. The ideal candidate is comfortable designing and deploying technology solutions, troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues, working with customers and project teams, and supporting systems in operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, deploy, configure, and support secure OT infrastructure and network architectures.

* Deploy and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, wireless, and cellular communications.

* Install, configure, maintain, patch, and secure Windows Server and Workstation environments.

* Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and related Microsoft infrastructure services.

* Configure and support virtualization platforms such as VMware ESXi, vSphere, and Hyper-V

* Design and support secure remote access and VPN solutions.

* Support connectivity between SCADA, HMI, PLC, telemetry, alarming, and industrial automation systems

* Support communications infrastructure and connectivity for remote operational sites.

* Assist with infrastructure design, technology selection, hardware procurement, and technical project planning.

* Implement cybersecurity controls including system hardening, vulnerability remediation, endpoint protection, network segmentation, and secure remote access.

* Develop and maintain network diagrams, configuration standards, installation documentation, and support procedures.

* Troubleshoot infrastructure, communications, networking, server, and OT system issues and perform root cause analysis.

* Provide technical support during system startup, commissioning, maintenance, and implementation activities.

* Provide technical guidance and training to customers, operators, and internal personnel.

* Support infrastructure standardization, modernization, and technology lifecycle initiatives.

Required Qualifications

* 5+ years of experience supporting IT, OT, industrial networking, infrastructure, or utility environments

* Strong experience with networking technologies including switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, and secure remote access

* Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Windows Workstation, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy

* Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V

* Experience designing, deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting infrastructure environments.

* Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis.

* Ability to work independently while collaborating with technical, operational, project, and customer-facing teams.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in water/wastewater, utilities, industrial automation, power/electric, oil & gas, manufacturing, or other critical infrastructure environments

* Experience with SCADA, HMI, PLCs, industrial communications, telemetry, or OT systems

* Knowledge of OT cybersecurity and secure IT/OT integration.

* Familiarity with technologies from Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Hirschmann or similar platforms.

* Experience with backup and recovery technologies such as Veeam

* Familiarity with OT cybersecurity and monitoring platforms such as Dragos, Nozomi, Claroty, or similar technologies

* Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and standards applicable to industrial and utility environments.

* Relevant certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, Network+, Security+, Microsoft, VMware, Fortinet, GICSP, CISSP, ISA/IEC 62443 or equivalent certifications.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technologist with a strong foundation in two or more of the following areas:

* Operational Technology / Industrial Systems

* Network Engineering

* Windows / Systems Administration

Candidates should be comfortable learning new technologies, troubleshooting across multiple technology stacks, and working in complex industrial or operational environments.
