Seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join a major government technology program focused on modernizing a critical national capability that supports real-time operational decision-making, surveillance, analytics, and geospatial intelligence.
This role will see you working within high-performing Agile teams to design, build and deploy secure cloud-native solutions leveraging modern AWS technologies. You will play a key role in delivering scalable platforms capable of processing large volumes of complex data to support operational outcomes of national significance.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the software development lifecycle, contributing to the design, development, integration and support of enterprise-grade cloud solutions.
You will collaborate with architects, engineers, analysts and stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable and resilient applications while helping shape technical direction and engineering best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices and integration services
- Build event-driven, serverless and containerised solutions within AWS environments
- Develop Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK
- Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated deployments and testing
- Participate in solution design, architecture reviews and technical decision making
- Perform code reviews, testing and quality assurance activities
- Troubleshoot production issues and optimise application performance
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring within Agile delivery teams
- Produce technical documentation including solution designs, deployment guides and operational runbooks
About You You will bring strong experience delivering cloud-based software solutions and be comfortable working in complex enterprise or government environments.
Essential Experience
- Strong software engineering experience across cloud-native environments
- Development experience with technologies such as Java, Python, Node.js, JavaScript or TypeScript
- Experience building and deploying solutions on AWS
- Strong understanding of microservices, APIs and event-driven architectures
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code
- Knowledge of CI/CD practices and DevSecOps principles
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams
Highly Regarded
- Experience supporting large-scale government or enterprise transformation programs
- Knowledge of geospatial, intelligence, surveillance or operational systems
- Experience leading technical design and architecture discussions
- Understanding of modern cloud security and governance best practices
Requirements
- Current NV1 Security Clearance is mandatory
- Ability to work on-site in Canberra
- Australian Citizenship required
