Nutritionist

About This Role

This role provides nutritional assessment, support, and consultation to pediatric patients and their families referred from clinics and physicians. The Nutritionist develops realistic plans for adherence to prescribed regimens and serves as a pediatric nutrition resource for staff, students, and community groups.

Responsibilities

• Provide nutritional assessment of each pediatric ambulatory patient based on medical records and nutritional history
• Assess patients’ nutritional status based on clinical data including detailed nutritional history, birth history, medical history, laboratory data, and medications
• Develop an individualized nutrition plan for oral and enteral regimens in conjunction with the care team
• Design specialized enteral formulas with modified macro- and micronutrients for optimal nutritional support
• Counsel patients and families on planning, purchasing, and preparing foods to meet individual needs
• Follow progress of patients on successive visits and make appropriate changes in care plan
• Maintain necessary patient records and statistics including written evaluations, progress notes, and assessments
• Precept FSNC nutrition interns (graduate students) and other trainees during their pediatric affiliations
• Supervise intern progress in assessing patients, developing care plans, and counseling pediatric patients and families
• Plan, implement, and evaluate the need for group sessions and other clinic-appropriate activities
• Coordinate nutritional services with medical services
• Provide formal classroom instruction to students, particularly within one's area of expertise/specialization, as required
• Perform necessary administrative duties such as scheduling patient appointments, reviewing medical records, records billing information, and obtaining patient referral numbers for insurance
• Participate, as required, in nutrition-related studies and projects
• Provide in-service education to the patient care team, as required
• Assist in the training of new personnel
• Act as a resource to community groups regarding nutrition and give presentations and lectures at professional meetings and to community groups
• Assist in preparing yearly goals and work toward meeting the agreed upon goals
• Participate in special projects to enhance the activities and image of the Frances Stern Nutrition Center
• Maintain competencies in pediatric nutrition
• Use Professional Practice guidelines for outpatient services
• Monitor monthly revenue reports and assist team with actions as necessary to meet budget requirements
• Evaluate customer survey results and participate in service improvement programs as necessary
