Nurse Practitioner - NICU (BCH-CrossBay)

Job Description UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is recognized throughout the world as a leader in health care, known for innovation, technology and compassionate care. Our 180-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital has more than 150 specialists in more than 40 areas of medicine.

The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) at BCH San Francisco was founded in 1964 and pioneered fetal surgery and is a 58-bed unit that provides care for critically ill newborns and infants. The Newborn ICU (NICU) at BCH Oakland is a 43-bed department. Both the ICN and the NICU have the expertise to treat the smallest, sickest and most fragile babies needing surgery for heart, lung, gastrointestinal and other life-threatening conditions. Our neonatal heart program is one of the largest in the country, treating almost 200 newborns with heart disease each year. Both units are Regional Intensive Care Nurseries and work with an extensive network of hospitals in Northern California to provide neonatology care.

The Nurse Practitioner will act as a member of the care team, taking primary responsibility for the safe delivery of care for inpatient newborns and infants. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:

• Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing recognized Nurse Practitioner Program with a masters or doctoral degree aligned with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner specialization
• Minimum of one (1) year of recent working experience in a Level III or IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as a Nurse Practitioner

Preferred Qualifications

• More than two (2) years of experience working as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in a Level III or Level IV Neonatal ICU
• Lactation education experience or IBCLC certification

Licenses/Certifications

• California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction
• California Nurse Practitioner (NP) License without restriction
• California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number
• NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role Neonatal (NNP-BC). See Addendum A below for more detail.
• California Driver License (if required for position)
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Additional required AHA certifications: NRP Advanced
• Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None

UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to be credentialed through its Office of Medical Affairs and Governance (OMAG) to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. Credentialing takes between 60-90 days and must be completed prior to the first working day. You will be assigned an FPPE template of procedures for CRNAs, but you may add additional privileges on request with an explanation of the purpose.
