Nurse Practitioner

About This Role

This role involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of various illnesses, providing comprehensive therapeutic and preventative health services in an outpatient setting. The Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with physicians and consultants while also managing primary care for trauma patients.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and treat all types of illnesses when required
• Change or modify treatment plans within established procedural guidelines, recognizing when to refer patients to a physician
• Provide comprehensive therapeutic and preventative health services to individual patients, family members, and patient groups in an outpatient setting
• Provide primary care for trauma, including suturing, wound care, splinting, and simple casts
• Work collaboratively with physician providers and outside consultants on more complex cases or cases requiring specialty care or contract health services

Requirements

• Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State Accrediting agency at the time the program was completed
• Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
• 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11, with advanced experience in primary health care, providing direct comprehensive preventive and therapeutic health services to individuals, families, or groups
• Ability to assess the health status of individuals, manage the care of selected patients, and provide treatment, health teaching, counseling, guidance, and instructions to individuals/families so that they participate in a plan of care
• Current, valid, active, unrestricted license in any State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
• Certification issued by the appropriate certifying body (such as the American Nursing Association) as a Nurse Practitioner

Important Details

• Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
