Nurse Consultant

Duties

As a Nurse Consultant you will:

• Provides public health leadership and program guidance on HIV prevention best practices to supported PEPFAR countries.

• Provides technical assistance on HIV prevention according to recently published Federal policies on development, implementation, and evaluation of HIV practices.

• Maintains quality and efficiency standards as set by the immediate supervisor, and in accordance with established international guidelines, and makes recommendations of improvements.

• Maintains an in-depth knowledge of HIV prevention, nursing principles and practices, national and international health policies and standards, construction and renovation techniques to reduce HIV transmissions risk and adult educational techniques.

• Attends national and international meetings where HIV prevention issues are addressed.

• Liaise with other CDC divisions, offices, WHO, USAID, and other international technical partners to maintain a dialog assuring the coordination and coverage of activities and services.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained.

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience advising, analyzing, interpreting and disseminating established guidance on HIV/AIDS Prevention in public health.

Education

Foreign Education: Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. 1. Security and Background Requirements: If not previously completed, a background security investigation will be required for all appointees. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements may be grounds for appropriate personnel action. In addition, if hired, a background security reinvestigation or supplemental investigation may be required at a later time.
