Nurse (Cardiac Device)

About This Role

This Cardiac Device Nurse role at Syracuse VAMC involves being responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process while providing and supervising direct patient care. The Cardiac Device Registered Nurse (RN) delivers competent, evidence-based outpatient care to assigned patients.

Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care
• Administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines
• Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team
• Formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments
• Collaborate with the Electrophysiology (EP) team, Cardiologists, heart failure team, surgical team, and other clinical staff to coordinate the care of patients with CIEDs, and to provide and improve quality patient outcomes for the patient and families
• Partner with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum
• Evaluate care and outcomes to ensure timely and appropriate provision of services
• Advocate for holistic care through patient/family education and provider interaction and implement an educational plan to meet the patient care needs
• Address psychosocial, as well as nursing and medical needs of patients and their families/caregivers, through participation with the interdisciplinary care team
• Coordinate services to interface within the Veterans Affairs (VA) and community programs to provide continuity of care to patients
• Cope with and manage competing priorities
• Demonstrate competence in outpatient practice and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills
• Be accountable for the effective management and coordination of care for patients with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device (CIED), including pacemakers, implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs), and implantable loop recorders

Requirements

• English Language Proficiency
• Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
• OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program
• Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program
