NSI Paid Skilled Trade Training Program The Naval Shipyard Institute is a Paid Trade Skill Training Program, consisting of 6 weeks of paid training at Maine Maritime Academy followed by 8 weeks of Paid intensive Trade Theory in Portsmouth, NH. Trainees will be paid $20.00 per hour and while at MMA, food and housing will be provided. Cohort #1 start date is May 9, 2027 and graduates on August 13, 2027 Each cohort will conduct skills training in the following trades: Structural Welder Inside Machinist Marine Machinery Mechanic Marine Electrician Trainees will be required to pass a Security Clearance Background Investigation at the Secret Level. No experience needed, we provide all training with pay and benefits while you learn. Must be a U.S. citizen. After completing the initial training, Trainees will be qualified for trades helper, assembler/line-worker positions by companies supporting the Defense Department and the Submarine Industrial Base. Trainees will acquire essential skills needed to qualify for apprenticeship programs and potential Federal Government Employment. Training will begin at Maine Maritime Academy in May 2027.
