About This Role
This full-time role involves researching, writing, and editing news, sports, and feature content for both print and digital publications. The reporter/photographer will cover assigned events, develop relationships with community contacts, and capture supporting photographs and video. It suits a candidate with strong journalistic skills and a commitment to community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Research, write, and edit news, sports, and feature content for print and digital publications
- Cover assigned news, sports, community, and special events
- Develop and maintain relationships with sources, community contacts, and local organizations
- Conduct interviews and gather accurate information for news and feature stories
- Produce accurate, timely, and engaging content in accordance with AP style and company standards
- Capture and edit photographs and video to support news, sports, and feature coverage
- Write accurate captions and identify individuals, locations, and events represented in photographs
- Monitor community events, local issues, and ongoing developments to identify story opportunities
- Meet established deadlines while managing multiple assignments and priorities
- Assist with the production of special sections, magazines, and other editorial projects as assigned
- Represent the company professionally within the communities served
- Adhere to company policies, journalistic standards, and ethical guidelines
- Assist with newspaper distribution, insert delivery, and other publication support activities as needed
- Maintain a commitment to internal and external customer service
- Participate in the Great Game of Business and support company initiatives
- Adhere to all company safety standards, including general workplace safety, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Strong writing, editing, interviewing, and proofreading skills
- Working knowledge of AP style
- Experience with photography and digital image management
- Ability to gather information, verify facts, and produce accurate content under deadline pressure
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Proficiency with computers, content management systems, and standard business software applications
- Demonstrated alignment with company core values and ESOP culture
- Valid driver's license and adhere to company driving eligibility requirements, including proof of auto insurance
