About the role
A confidential regional, mid-market law firm is seeking an experienced civil litigation attorney to join its Chicago-based commercial transportation defense practice. This is an opportunity for a seasoned litigator to handle sophisticated matters across the full lifecycle of litigation, with meaningful motion practice and trial preparation responsibilities, plus a small component of related transactional and administrative work.

THE ROLE
- Represent clients in all phases of civil litigation in state and federal courts.
- Manage oral and written discovery, fact investigation, and case development strategy.
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, memoranda of law, affidavits, and client reports.
- Handle active motion practice, including dispositive motions.
- Support trial preparation and participate in trial work as matters progress.
- Assist with some transactional, retail, and administrative work as needed.

REQUIREMENTS
- Active Illinois bar license.
- Seven or more years of civil litigation experience.
- Experience handling all phases of litigation, including discovery, fact investigation, legal research, drafting pleadings, and motion practice.
- Experience in state and federal courts, including dispositive motions.
- Trial preparation and trial experience.
- Ability to take on some transactional, retail, and administrative responsibilities.
PREFERRED BACKGROUND
- Strong analytical skills and clear, practical legal writing.
- Excellent communication skills, including client reporting.
- Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
