About This Role
This Network Technician role involves establishing and maintaining networking environments, ensuring optimal performance, and providing timely customer support. It suits a candidate with a strong interest in technology and a background in telecommunications, network, or computer science.
Responsibilities
- Establish networking environment by configuration, system installation, documenting, and enforcing system standards
- Maximize network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with the network team on network optimization
- Undertake data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments, using information from multiple sources
- Secure network system by establishing and enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations
- Upgrade data network equipment to latest stable firmware releases
- Configure routing and switching equipment
- Configure hosted IP voice services
- Perform basic configuration of firewalls
- Provide remote support to on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation
- Perform remote troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation
- Provide timely customer support during responses to emergency work requests
- Travel to and from customer/work sites in the performance of duties
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head of Business
Requirements
- Degree in Telecommunications/Network/Computer Science
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an IT/network related position
- Relevant IT industry certification, preferably CCNA Routing & Switching
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good knowledge of network characteristics and network components (i.e.: network servers, switches, routers, cabling, etc.)
- Ability to interpret and apply complex technical manuals and reference materials
- Ability to communicate effectively in French & English (both written and spoken)
- Willingness to learn new technologies and the ability to practically apply the associated principles and practices
