About the role
Duties
The primary purpose of this position is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) officer to serve as Navigator Instructor providing ground and airborne navigational flight instruction to assigned Reservists in the unit assigned aircraft. The position requires accomplishing a variety of administrative duties related to flight instruction and mission accomplishment such as scheduling, squadron operations management, combat mission planning and training. Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:
- Manage the aircrew certification program.
- Administers standardization/evaluation flight evaluations.
- Compose and construct navigation portion of crew members mission briefings including the determination of initial flight plans, fuel requirements and required charts.
- Perform in-flight navigation equipment checks on all unit assigned aircraft.
- Serve as Instructor and/or Examiner Navigator in Unit Mission Aircraft.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the flying hours requirement below, qualify for a USAF Navigator Rating, and be currently qualified (within last 36 months) as a Navigator Instructor in a flying component of a U.S. MILITARY ESTABLISHMENT. (Active Duty or Reserve)
Flying Hours Required:
Navigator (Instructor), GS-12
Must have logged 1,000 hours as a Navigator in a military fixed-wing aircraft. Must be currently instructor qualified in the B-52 aircraft. NOTE: Flying hours logged as a student Navigator are creditable.
