The National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC), in partnership with the Development Banking System (SBD) and with the support of the United Kingdom, the Small Grants Programme (SGP) and the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), announce the launch of Naturalia, a program for agritourism ventures in biological corridors, whose implementation will be carried out by Impact Hub San José.
Naturalia seeks to strengthen agritourism and community-based rural tourism ventures located in biological corridors, through comprehensive technical support and seed capital investment, promoting sustainable business models aligned with the Nature+ approach and inclusive territorial development.
Naturalia's approaches are agritourism and community-based rural tourism focused on Positive Nature and promoting initiatives that not only reduce negative impacts, but also generate additional environmental benefits, such as greater ecological connectivity, soil regeneration, protection of water sources and conservation of biodiversity.
Under this vision, the aim is for ventures to integrate sustainable production, cultural identity, environmental education, and authentic tourism experiences that highlight rural landscapes and the importance of biological corridors as ecological infrastructure of the country.
For its first edition, Naturalia will work in two priority biological corridors: Montes del Aguacate, which includes San Ramón, Atenas, San Mateo, Naranjo, Palmares, Orotina, Esparza and Montes de Oro and Tenorio–Miravalles, which includes Upala, Bagaces and Cañas.
Who can apply? Entrepreneurs wishing to apply must reside or have their businesses in the biological corridors prioritized in this first edition, have at least six months of demonstrable operation, and actively participate in the management of their initiative.
Special consideration will be given to those who already have a defined business model, validated experience or product, and consistency with current environmental, health and tourism regulations, as well as a willingness to strengthen formalization, sustainability and innovation processes.
The selected initiatives will have access to a comprehensive process that includes specialized technical support in strengthening the agritourism business model, designing and improving experiences, marketing strategies, environmental management and territorial linkages.
In addition, they will be able to count on investment in strategic productive assets, such as equipment, light infrastructure for visitor services, interpretive signage or productive tools that contribute to improving the quality and sustainability of the undertaking.
The program will also foster collaboration with local stakeholders, local governments, tourism boards, biological corridor organizations, and other ventures, in order to strengthen the integrated territorial offering and enhance the visibility of the corridor as a sustainable tourism destination.

The evaluation will consider criteria such as market viability, the business's consolidation, its alignment with the Nature+ approach, its territorial and environmental impact, and its potential for supply chain integration and scalability.
