Middleware Engineer

We’re looking for a skilled Middleware Engineer to help design, automate, and support enterprise middleware platforms in a modern hybrid environment. This role offers the opportunity to work across application, infrastructure, and cloud technologies while contributing to platform reliability, modernization, and integration efforts.

Responsibilities

• Support and engineer middleware platforms across virtual machines, bare metal, and container-based environments.
• Design, build, and troubleshoot enterprise middleware solutions that connect applications, services, databases, messaging systems, and cloud environments.
• Develop proof-of-concepts and pilot implementations to support middleware adoption and platform modernization.
• Automate installation, configuration, patching, deployment, and operational tasks using Ansible.
• Use Terraform to help provision and automate infrastructure, especially in AWS environments.
• Work with APIs, web services, and service integration frameworks to enable reliable connectivity between systems.
• Investigate and resolve issues across middleware, networking, infrastructure, and application layers.
• Partner with architects, application teams, and platform engineers to deliver scalable technical solutions.
• Support middleware deployments on AWS EC2 and other non-managed environments when needed.
• Contribute to monitoring, logging, and operational support for middleware services.

Skills

• Hands-on experience with several enterprise middleware technologies, such as IBM WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Liberty, IBM HTTP Server, Apache HTTP Server, Apache Tomcat, Red Hat JBoss/EAP, or Oracle WebLogic.
• Strong background in Java-based middleware architecture and Linux administration.
• Experience integrating middleware with enterprise applications, security services, identity platforms, databases, messaging tools, monitoring systems, and cloud services.
• Practical experience building automation with Ansible for middleware operations.
• Experience with Terraform and infrastructure automation in AWS.
• Working knowledge of Java runtime environments, including Oracle Java and OpenJDK.
• Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as a senior technical contributor while collaborating effectively with others.
• Willingness to work in a hybrid onsite model, with onsite presence required at least three days per week.
• Ability to complete a background check and drug screen upon offer.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Prometheus, or Grafana.
• Background working with enterprise messaging technologies such as IBM MQ, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices that support middleware delivery.
• Experience supporting regulated environments such as financial services or banking.
• Exposure to middleware operations in AWS and other modern cloud environments.
