Position Summary
The Middle School Basketball Coach is responsible for providing a positive, safe, and developmentally appropriate basketball experience for Kingsley-Pierson students. The coach will teach basketball fundamentals, promote teamwork and sportsmanship, support student growth, and represent Kingsley-Pierson Community School District in a positive and professional manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and supervise practices that are appropriate for middle school student-athletes.
- Teach fundamental basketball skills, rules, strategies, and proper techniques.
- Promote individual skill development while building teamwork and an understanding of team concepts.
- Provide students with meaningful opportunities to participate and develop throughout the season.
- Establish clear expectations for behavior, effort, attendance, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions.
- Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, responsibility, effort, and good sportsmanship.
- Serve as a positive role model for students and represent Kingsley-Pierson in a professional manner.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, school administration, and the Activities Director.
- Work collaboratively with other basketball coaches to support consistency and development throughout the Kingsley-Pierson basketball program.
- Follow all Kingsley-Pierson Community School District policies, athletic department expectations, conference rules, and applicable state athletic regulations.
- Ensure student-athletes follow school eligibility, attendance, academic, and behavioral expectations.
- Maintain accurate team rosters and other required information.
- Assist with the distribution, collection, care, and inventory of uniforms, basketballs, equipment, and other school property.
- Ensure facilities, locker rooms, and equipment are appropriately cared for following practices and competitions.
- Report injuries, safety concerns, disciplinary concerns, or other significant issues to the appropriate school personnel.
- Follow district procedures regarding student injuries, emergency situations, transportation, and supervision.
- Attend required coaches' meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Coordinate with the Activities Director regarding schedules, transportation, officials, facility needs, and other program responsibilities.
- Perform other coaching-related duties as assigned by the Activities Director or school administration.
