Duties

  • Orchestrates and shapes the integration of state of climate science data, research, and methods into Air Force's climate service capability to optimize existing and emerging Joint Force and Intelligent Community requirements.
  • Represents the unit as the Air Force's principal authority on climate science matters.
  • Researches and assesses IT systems and software to maximize climate services mission effectiveness.

Qualifications

GS-14: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience to at least the (GS-13) grade level under the General Schedule (GS) or other pay systems. Specialized experience in relation to knowledge of climate and hydrological science methods, guidelines, standards, research techniques, and state of the art capabilities and ability to resolve highly complex and difficult meteorological and climate science problems and issues.

AND

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Broad expert knowledge of climate and hydrological science methods, guidelines, standards, research techniques, and state of the art capabilities and ability to resolve highly complex and difficult meteorological and climate science problems and issues.

  2. Incumbent regularly interfaces with atmospheric scientists, geophysicists, hydrologists, and engineer with training at the doctoral levels and must be able to converse on the appropriate level and to review and evaluate scientific papers describing climate science techniques developed within the organization and the research community.

  3. Skill to effectively inspire, motivate and persuade others towards goal accomplishment. Demonstrated leadership ability and skill to coach, mentor, and challenge subordinates and coworkers.

  4. Expert knowledge of climate and hydrological science with demonstrated ability in directing analyses, evaluations, and studies in a broad range of complex and inter-related programs.

  5. Keen understanding of hardware, software, and communications and systems engineering principles and concepts including knowledge of data analysis and process modeling methodologies.

  6. Advanced skill to communicate orally and in writing with ability to articulate complex issues, and develop and maintain effective interpersonal relations.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
