About the role
Photon builds infrastructure that connects AI agents to the communication platforms people already use. Our macOS infrastructure is a core part of that foundation.
We’re looking for an engineer to build and operate our Mac fleet and the data centers behind it. You’ll work across macOS internals, fleet management software, networking, and physical infrastructure—owning everything from how a machine gets powered on to how it gets provisioned, monitored, updated, and recovered.
What you’ll do
- Build macOS infrastructure at scale. Design and expand our Mac fleet, making thoughtful decisions about hardware, capacity, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Write the software that runs it. Build management agents, internal tools, and automation for provisioning, configuration, deployments, health checks, and remote recovery.
- Own fleet management. Develop reliable workflows for device enrollment, MDM, configuration profiles, security policies, and macOS updates.
- Design and operate data centers. Plan rack layouts, cabling, switching, routing, network segmentation, power distribution, UPS systems, cooling, and redundancy.
- Go deep into macOS. Diagnose problems across system services, permissions, networking, application behavior, and hardware. Build fixes that address the underlying cause.
- Make operations dependable. Improve monitoring, incident response, recovery procedures, and documentation so the infrastructure becomes easier to operate as it grows.
What you bring
- Deep understanding of macOS architecture, system administration, and troubleshooting, including launchd, system services, permissions, and diagnostic tools.
- Experience building and debugging software in C, Swift, and Objective-C.
- Hands-on experience with MDM, Apple Business Manager, automated device enrollment, and configuration profiles.
- Experience designing or operating data center infrastructure, including networking, power distribution, cooling, and hardware lifecycle management.
- An understanding of what changes when a Mac deployment grows into a large fleet: configuration drift, staged updates, failure isolation, remote recovery, and capacity planning.
- Strong automation skills and the judgment to turn recurring operational work into reliable software.
- Comfort moving between writing code, diagnosing a network issue, and working directly with hardware.
Experience operating production Mac fleets, building macOS management agents, or designing infrastructure with limited off-the-shelf support is especially valuable.
