Medical Support Specialist EMT

About This Role

Medical Support Specialists play a key role in supporting plasma center operations by determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, and reviewing lab results. This role involves working under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational tasks and the Center Physician for medical issues, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and supporting environmental, health, and safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, acceptance requirements, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE)
• Evaluate donor reaction(s) at the facility as outlined in the SOPs
• Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing Center Physician's standing orders and transporting donors to emergency care facilities
• Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable donor findings or medical/technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable
• Manage employee incidents and determine if further occupational health/ER evaluation is required, referring to EHS guidance
• Serve as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
• Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned as an Emergency Medical Technician -Basic (EMT-B), Advanced (EMT-A), Intermediate (EMT-I), Paramedic (EMT-P), Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN), or Registered Nurse (RN)
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
• Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
• Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting
