About the role

Job Summary

Performs a wide variety of clerical work in the Health Information Management Department.

Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions

  • Retrieves loose sheets of various types, preps, scans, and indexes reports ensuring all reports have been entered into the scanning system.
  • Picks up records from the nursing units as assigned and ensures all records have been received. Checks in records by comparing to the discharge lists and follows up with nursing units to retrieve any records not received.
  • Identifies incomplete patient records and enters deficiencies into the computer under the appropriate physician number. Ensures a high degree of accuracy in the assignment of deficiencies.
  • Ensures Discharge Summaries are assigned on a daily basis from the Discharge List
  • Works assigned queues to ensure queues are cleared out in a timely manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality with data related to any aspect of Shannon and of patients.
  • Must perform duties and conduct interpersonal relationships in a manner designed to project a positive image.
  • Provides excellent customer service; exhibits professional, attentive, courteous, and respectful demeanor with each customer.
  • Performs quality reviews according to quality improvement policies and procedures to ensure accuracy of scanning and indexing.
  • Performs job duties at established quantitative and qualitative standards to meet departmental goals and objectives.
  • Works with the IT department to incorporate new technologies.
  • Communicates effectively at all levels within the organization, expressing ideas and information clearly and concisely in verbal and written form.
  • Contributes to the morale and teamwork of the staff and facility; displays a positive attitude and patient-minded vision with customer/client satisfaction as the goal.
  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of the scanning and indexing process, including guidelines in training manuals, regulatory manuals, and policies and procedures.
  • Understands that this role requires specific responsibilities for protecting sensitive data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Required
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
    • Knowledge of HIPAA Requirements
