About the role

Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control& calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.

As an MLS, you will:

  • Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department.
  • Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
  • Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
  • Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.
  • Works alternate shifts as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelor degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree is also acceptable.
  • For non-CLS/MT degrees, one year of experience in a clinical laboratory is required.

Preferred:

  • Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.

Other Information

  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday (7 am - 3:30 pm)
  • Required to work a weekend rotation for every 3rd weekend and rotational holidays
