Job Summary
The Medical Lab Scientist III performs routine and complex laboratory testing while ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality results. The role involves operating and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation, performing quality control procedures, and making technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine specimen acceptability according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures in accordance with departmental SOPs.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
- Make technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Monitor and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
- Assist with specimen processing when required.
- Maintain a safe work environment and use appropriate PPE.
- Work independently while collaborating effectively with the laboratory team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology , or a related field, or meet applicable CLIA and state regulatory requirements.
- 5–7 years of clinical laboratory testing experience required.
- State Medical Technologist license may be required, depending on the position requirements.
- ASCP or AMT certification may be preferred or required based on the specific requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to pass a standardized color vision screening .
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs.
