Medical Assistant (MA) - Surgical Specialists Clinic

About This Role

Supporting providers, connecting with patients, and ensuring a seamless, compassionate experience are the main duties of this Medical Assistant role within a surgical specialists clinic. You will be a vital part of the care team, working in an ambulatory care setting.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and support their transition into care
• Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings
• Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures
• Administer medications and vaccines as directed
• Perform lab-related tasks including specimen collection and point-of-care testing
• Document care accurately in the electronic health record
• Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high-quality, coordinated care

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Medical assistant diploma or 2 years of medical assistant experience or certified MA with 2 years of medical assistant experience
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday
• Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies
• Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
• Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions
• Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines
• Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed
• Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions
• Physical Abilities Testing may be required
• Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader

Nice to have:

• Phlebotomy skills

Important Details

• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8.5 hour shifts with a lunch between 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
• Locations: Mainly in Park Ridge, with travel to IMMC once per week and Downers Grove once per month
