Medical Assistant MA - Care

About This Role

This night-shift post on the cardiac ward pairs patient care with mentoring new nurses. The Medical Assistant supports the care team by performing clinical and administrative tasks vital to patient care, adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines to ensure patient safety and confidentiality. They are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and compassion during all interactions.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and support their transition into care
• Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings
• Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures
• Administer medications and vaccines as directed
• Perform lab-related tasks including specimen collection and point-of-care testing
• Document care accurately in the electronic health record
• Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high-quality, coordinated care

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Medical assistant diploma or 2 years of medical assistant experience or certified MA with 2 years of medical assistant experience
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday
• Ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies
• Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
• Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions
• Ability to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines
• Ability to perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed
• Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions

Nice to have:

• Phlebotomy skills

Important Details

• Schedule: Every third Saturday and Sunday 7am - 5pm; Monday - Friday hours 6:45am - 8pm; open on holidays - rotating schedule; schedule will consist of 3 shifts per week
