About the role
Overview Join the WakeMed Heart & Vascular team as a Medical Assistant and become part of a highly specialized team dedicated to caring for patients with cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure. In this role, you will work alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other clinical professionals to deliver exceptional patient-centered care. What You'll Do
- Room patients, obtain vital signs, update medical histories, and accurately document information within the electronic medical record.
- Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and specialty cardiac care workflows.
- Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure seamless patient care.
- Support patients with cardiovascular and advanced heart failure conditions through education, follow-up coordination, and appointment management.
- Process medication requests, prior authorizations, referrals, diagnostic testing, and specialty care coordination.
- Monitor provider schedules, manage patient flow, and contribute to efficient clinic operations.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Maintain exam rooms, clinical supplies, and equipment while adhering to quality, safety, and infection prevention standards.
What We're Looking For
- Experienced Medical Assistant with a background in a specialty practice environment.
- Previous experience working in complex specialty-care environments is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Strong understanding of the needs of patients managing chronic cardiovascular conditions.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and patient service skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Compassionate and patient-focused approach with a commitment to creating an exceptional patient experience.
- Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to adapt to changing patient and clinic needs.
- Commitment to continuous learning, teamwork, and clinical excellence.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred in accordance with WakeMed requirements.
