Mechanical Engineer, Systems Engineer

About This Role

This Mechanical Engineer role involves evaluating new technologies for IT servers, data center infrastructure devices, and systems within Apple's Data Center Engineering team. The core objective is to innovate and refine test environments, characterize systems, and perform root cause failure analysis to improve concepts, products, services, methods, and procedures. The role suits a team-oriented, innovative, and experienced Mechanical Engineer with a logical and forward-thinking mindset.

Responsibilities

• Drive the evaluation of a wide variety of devices, equipment, and systems in lab environments and data centers
• Innovate or refine test environments
• Evaluate and characterize systems
• Perform root cause failure analysis
• Drive analysis, evaluation, and collaboration on servers, data center cooling, and electrical infrastructure components, systems, and equipment

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field or equivalent job-related experience
• 5+ years experience with Mechanical 2D and/or 3D modeling tools
• 5+ years of experience with analysis methods such as CFD, FEA, stress, strain, vibration analysis, thermal, fluid flow, or failure analysis
• Hands-on experience working in a dynamic lab environment
• Proven record of excellent problem-solving skills
• Experience in researching, understanding, and explaining complex systems in clear and concise language
• Experience in methods for root cause failure analysis and corrective actions
• Thorough understanding of the fundamental aspects of thermal design
• Strong modeling skills, modeling techniques with experience accurately capturing complex details, and understanding of machine shop processes
• Proficient with Excel, Numbers, or equivalent to organize, analyze, and visualize data
• Self-starter, self-driven, and able to lead other team members
• Understanding of electrical engineering

Nice to have:

• 5+ years of experience in product design, or validation or evaluation
• Experience with CFD analysis tools such as 6 Sigma, ICEPAK, etc.
• Understanding of data center infrastructure operation and cooling solutions
