Measles Epidemiologist

About This Role

Supporting public health surveillance, disease investigation, and outbreak response activities in Indiana is the core of this contract role. This position focuses on minimizing measles-related morbidity and mortality by conducting epidemiological investigations, analyzing surveillance data, and coordinating with various health agencies. The ideal candidate has experience in public health surveillance, communicable disease investigations, and epidemiological data analysis, along with strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct measles and other communicable disease surveillance using electronic disease surveillance systems and related public health platforms
• Assist with individual case investigations and outbreak investigations
• Coordinate diagnostic testing with public health laboratories, healthcare providers, and local health departments
• Provide technical guidance and support to healthcare professionals, public health agencies, and members of the public
• Analyze surveillance data, identify key findings, and recognize data limitations
• Prepare reports, presentations, educational materials, and public health communications
• Conduct structured and unstructured telephone interviews to gather relevant patient information
• Support data entry, laboratory result documentation, and other surveillance activities as needed
• Interpret public health guidance and applicable regulations to support disease prevention and control
• Collaborate with state and local agencies, healthcare providers, laboratories, and federal public health partners
• Maintain accurate records and protect confidential patient information
• Participate in occasional overnight travel and on-call coverage, if applicable to the program

Requirements

• Master's degree in a relevant field, such as public health, biological sciences, or social sciences
• OR Master's degree in a non-relevant field with at least 2 years of public health experience
• OR Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with at least 2 years of public health experience
• OR Bachelor's degree in a non-relevant field with at least 4 years of public health experience
• OR High school diploma or GED with at least 8 years of public health experience
• At least 2 years of experience with disease or syndromic surveillance systems, such as NBS or ESSENCE
• At least 2 years of experience assisting with disease investigations, preferably involving vaccine-preventable or communicable diseases
• At least 2 years of experience conducting descriptive analyses of surveillance data and identifying key findings and limitations
• At least 2 years of Microsoft Office experience
