Maritime Intern

About This Role

This challenging and varied internship offers a motivated MBO 4 / HBO maritime student a full-time role aboard the seagoing vessel Yed Prior. You will gain experience in various facets of maritime operations, depending on your field of study, and will be expected to be proactive and ask questions.

Responsibilities

• As a helmsman, you will participate on the bridge and learn all the navigation skills
• Perform stability calculations for cargo loading
• Learn all aspects of the dredging process
• Become familiar with all deck activities, including preservation, operation, and preventive maintenance
• Gain insight into all administrative tasks involved
• Communicate in Dutch and English
• As a marine engineer, you will work in the engine room and learn all technical systems on board
• Deal with all on-board activities, from mechanical to electrical
• Learn to handle all administrative tasks in the engine room
• Have a hands-on approach in the engine room and with auxiliary equipment on deck

Requirements

• MBO level 4 / HBO student in Maritime Officer, Helmsman, or Marine Engineer
• In possession of a Seaman's Book, Basic Safety certificate, and Medical Examination
• Minimum 18 years old
• Good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written

About the Company

Spaansen is a rapidly growing company in North Holland and Friesland, consisting of three divisions and employing 400 people. The Spaansen Group is divided into three divisions: Raw Materials and Logistics, Building Systems, and Garden and Paving Materials. The Marine Aggregates business unit of Spaansen Raw Materials and Logistics is responsible for extracting and transporting gravel and other materials using the TSHD YED PRIOR, a Hopper Dredger vessel. Crew changes take place weekly, allowing for work in different compositions.
