Manufacturing Technician

About This Role

This manufacturing technician role supports the safe and efficient operation of a metal-processing pilot plant. Key responsibilities include furnace operations, equipment maintenance, commissioning, material handling, and process development, working within a cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and monitor pilot-scale furnaces, molten metal processes, and related equipment
• Support startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and process improvements
• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs
• Follow operating procedures and maintain required process data and documentation
• Safely operate forklifts, cranes, and other material-handling equipment
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Comply with company, OSHA, environmental, and safety requirements

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Industrial, manufacturing, steelmaking, foundry, or pilot plant experience preferred
• Molten metal and high-temperature processing experience preferred
• Strong mechanical aptitude with basic maintenance and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and accurately document process activities
• Basic computer and effective communication skills
• Forklift, crane, rigging, or material-handling experience preferred
• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced pilot/R&D environment
• Ability to wear required PPE, including a PAPR (Power Air Purifying Respirator)

Important Details

• Schedule: primarily 8-hour shifts with overtime opportunities; occasional evenings and weekends based on operational needs

Physical Requirements

• Work safely around heat, noise, dust, vibration, humidity, strong magnetic fields, and industrial equipment
• Stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and navigate uneven surfaces throughout the workday
• Work in high-temperature environments for extended periods
• Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
• Safely use required PPE, hand/power tools, and material-handling equipment
