Managing Director

About This Role

Leading the organizational scaling of Movement Labs, this role focuses on building the operational leverage and leadership infrastructure necessary to support significant growth. The Managing Director will work closely with the founder and CEO to translate growth strategy into operational reality, ensuring the organization can double in size while maintaining its speed, experimentation, and mission focus.

Responsibilities

• Scale the organization by translating the 2x growth strategy into an organizational and operating model
• Anticipate and build people, processes, systems, and decision structures before they become constraints at the next stage of scale
• Lead the leadership team, running weekly leadership cadences, quarterly goal-setting, planning, and organization-wide decision processes
• Create clarity around priorities, owners, timelines, budgets, and tradeoffs
• Manage and develop senior leaders, directly managing a portfolio of VPs and/or directors
• Strengthen management quality across the organization and build leadership capacity for a substantially larger enterprise
• Design the organization, shaping structures, roles, accountabilities, cross-functional interfaces, and management rituals for a fast-growing, fully remote organization
• Protect a high-performance, mission-driven culture
• Serve as the CEO’s strategic partner and proxy, helping evaluate major investments and opportunities
• Resolve difficult internal questions, unstick decisions, and mediate across teams
• Turn strategy into execution
• Operate at election-cycle speed, creating enough structure to support scale without bureaucracy
• Help teams decide well and fast when priorities shift
• Directly own or work closely with leaders responsible for some combination of People and Operations, Finance, Legal and Compliance, Core Programs and Technology, Consulting and Partnerships, and New Program Lines and Growth Opportunities

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience, including substantial experience managing managers and senior leaders in a high-performance environment
• Demonstrated experience helping lead an organization, business, program, or major function through significant growth (ideally 2x or more)
• Personal ownership of the operational or organizational changes required to make that growth work
• A builder’s understanding of scale, having created or materially improved structures, roles, management systems, and operating rhythms
• Exceptional judgment and general-management range, moving comfortably between strategy, people, operations, and execution
• Structured and hired roles to create leverage and built accountability without unnecessary bureaucracy
