Manager, Software Engineering (Loans Lifecycle)

About This Role

Managing a software engineering team focused on the loans lifecycle, this role involves setting technical strategy and collaborating across product development teams. The manager will ensure technical sustainability, manage risks, and foster a culture of quality and ownership within the team, while also developing talent and ensuring operational availability of systems.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale
• Help the team tie technical strategy together with critical, business-impacting projects
• Collaborate across teams in the product development lifecycle with product management, design & analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are well understood and managed
• Act as a force-multiplier for the team through definition and advocacy of technical solutions and operational processes
• Take ownership of the team’s operations and availability by ensuring the right monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting are in place to support “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership on the team by setting code review and design standards, and advocating for them beyond the team through writing and tech talks
• Help develop talent on the team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
• 2+ years of experience managing a software team
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes
• Experience in financial systems, ledgering, treasury or adjacent domains where data accuracy and system reliability are critical
• Understanding of how to manage a high performance team, delivering successfully by growing the team, coaching engineers, and aligning stakeholders
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with a global engineering team
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
