About This Role
This role supports the CEO's most visible moments by shaping narrative strategy and turning it into words the CEO says and shares, while also monitoring external conversations to spot emerging narratives early. It suits a savvy communications professional with strong writing skills and news judgment, who can work calmly under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Keep a pulse on the outside narrative by monitoring news, social platforms (LinkedIn, X), podcasts, newsletters, and analyst and influencer commentary on the CEO, Salesforce, competitors, and the AI conversation
- Know what's gaining traction, who is amplifying it, and what it means
- Keep the CEO's message consistent by maintaining a living bank of messaging, language, and approved stories
- Ground everything in what's been said, using transcripts, coverage, and past remarks to keep content accurate and avoid contradictions
- Flag what matters, fast, by giving timely, concise reads on emerging narratives, risks, and openings, including a short daily or weekly narrative brief
- Recommend whether and how to engage
- Work cross-functionally, partnering with Product PR, the Office of the CEO, Government Affairs, Investor Relations, and other teams to align on messaging and gather input
- Draft messaging, cue cards, talk tracks, scripts, and fireside chat questions and prep, from first draft to final, on tight and shifting deadlines
- Support media interviews by partnering with Media Relations to prepare the CEO for press, podcast, and broadcast interviews: research the outlet and interviewer, and build key messages and Q&A
- Afterward, flag takeaways and follow-ups, help with fact-checking, and capture strong soundbites for the messaging bank
- Help own the CEO's LinkedIn presence by writing and publishing posts in their voice, running the content calendar, and tying every post to the moments and narrative priorities that matter most
- Track performance and use it to sharpen what to post next
Requirements
- 8+ years in executive communications, speech writing, corporate communications, journalism, or a similar field
- Experience writing for a CEO or other senior spokesperson strongly preferred
- Exceptional writing and editing skills
- A portfolio of speeches, talk tracks, op-eds, or executive messaging that is concise, compelling, and clearly in someone else's voice
- Executive social media expertise, with proven experience running LinkedIn for a senior leader: writing posts that sound like the person, planning a content calendar, and using engagement data to improve results
- Strong news and narrative judgment, with a habit of reading the news and social conversation closely, spotting what's gaining traction, and judging what matters, what doesn't, and when to act
