The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment.

As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to received three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

Why does the job exist?

This is a senior management position overseeing all facets of the Ports of Entry administration and be the lead and primary Liaison for the Ports budget, finance, procurement, accounts payable, travel, human resource, and fixed assets for the NMDOT Ports of Entry at the General Office.

The position will define and perform systems analysis and task development to improve workflow and operating efficiency. The position will operate independently within the established department policy, procedures and state law to provide program guidance and direction to the divisions business units. The position will interact with staff and customers to influence the results of the programs and agency mission.

How does it get done?

The primary responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Manage an established operating budget; ensure compliance with statewide policies, procedures, and state statutes; and oversee daily business operations.
  • Monitor procurement and expenditures to ensure adherence to the allocated budget while following state policies and regulations.
  • Supervise daily operations, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Lead and manage employees to achieve business objectives including recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Analyze existing workflows to identify inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and implement changes that streamline operations to enhance productivity and reduce costs.

Minimum Qualification

Associate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and four (4) years of directly related job experience operating within parameters and guidelines in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Office setting, exposure to Visual Video Display terminal (computer monitor) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting.
