About the role

Duties

This position performs duties in the areas of historic carpentry, painting, roofing, and masonry such as:

  • Performs repairs to buildings and quarters; construct, install, repair, and replace items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim, and cabinets.
  • Applies premixed paints or stains to masonry, gypsum board or wood surfaces.
  • Patch and repair roofs consisting of built up tar and paper, metal, as well as wood shingled roofs and asphalt shingles.
  • Performs masonry work of limited difficulty involving the maintenance, repair, construction, and/or stabilization of historic sites built on stone, mortar, or adobe and/or contemporary buildings, features or structures.
  • Performs custodial and other laborer duties as needed.
  • Required to operate government vehicles up to 20,000 pounds with automatic or manual transmissions.  A valid State Driver's License is required.

Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach and that require you to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.  Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.  Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present.  Required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.

The Screen-Out element for this position is: The ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-05, without more than normal supervision where you must be able to perform duties associated with maintaining grounds, buildings, and utilities through the use of hand tools and light power tools; interpreting work orders and sketches to complete projects; operating and maintaining heavy-type power mowers; loading, unloading, and/or moving objects (20-40 pounds) using hand trucks or wheelbarrows; and operating vehicles with towed trailers.

In addition, applicants must meet the following condition of employment (mandatory): Driver's License requirement: This position is frequently required to operate gas and diesel powered vehicles in the performance of day to day operations. A valid State Driver's License is required. If selected, you will be required to provide your state DMV record.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must show that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) necessary to perform the duties of this position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirement emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless of whether compensation was received or whether the experience was gained in a part-time or full-time occupation.

You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
