About the role

Duties
This position works park wide providing journeyman level skills and physical /technical expertise for a wide variety of routines, projects and jobs within Voyageurs National Park. The physical distance of most park facilities, and the difficult water based logistics and remote locations of the park facilities requires this position be multi-talented in a number of trades. Because of the complexity and journeyman level knowledge associated with these tasks, the incumbent is expected to perform the duties as described independently. They are responsible for diagnosing, researching, making recommendations to supervisors and properly completing the work with even the most complex or specialized repairs, with no additional on-site technical assistance.

Performs historic and non-historic preservation construction and maintenance for buildings, docks, and campgrounds. Duties require a variety of skills such as carpentry, masonry, and painting associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and related facilities.

Maintains, repairs, and constructs water and wastewater systems. The systems are maintained to meet Department of Health standards. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, and installs replacement piping in the repair and replacement of pipes, joints and fixtures in buildings, pump houses, and lift stations. Performs plumbing repairs and lays out new construction plumbing in Park buildings.

Operates a variety of motorized and non-motorized boats. Operates two and four wheel vehicles towing trailers. Equipment such as bobcats and forklifts.

Estimate material needs and have knowledge of the necessary steps to complete projects.

Construct concrete forms, mix prepare and pour concrete, spread/ level and finish concrete.

Must be skilled in the safe and operation of various hand and power tools to accomplish above listed duties. (example: power handsaws, radial arm saws, table saws, wrenches, power drills, volt meters, presses, air compressors, etc.)

Maintains or repairs fuel distribution systems. This includes pump, solenoid valves, and pressure regulation valve replacement or repair.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement Friday, June 02, 2017. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors. Additional information on the qualification requirements is outlined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations (X118C).
To qualify for this position, you must possess the basic qualifying experience and selective factors as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire. Qualifications will be determined by evaluating the application you submit and your responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire. Applicants must be physically fit and, as required in Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Handbook X-118C, must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying.

Experience: You must be able to demonstrate, through your experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors
Qualification requirement emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Applicant must demonstrate the minimum qualifications and include the designation ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision.

Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker WG-7 without more than normal supervision such as: experience performing basic maintenance duties on mechanical vehicles (change plugs, oil and tires for light duty trucks and ATV's, maintain snow machines and boats), power tools and generators (change plugs and oil, sharpen and repair chainsaws, mowers, trimmers, small generators), heating systems (maintain boilers heating fluid pressures and bleed air from heating registers), ventilation systems (change filters, clean systems, routine checks), plumbing systems (unclog toilets, inspect for leaks), electrical systems (change light bulbs and ballasts and worn out electrical appliances), and construction of basic framing and finishing carpentry projects. This work is performed under general supervision
