About the role
Duties
You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and installing air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems. A basic understanding of plumbing and carpentry is also required in order to conduct maintenance work and repairs to various systems.

Typical work assignments include:
- Air Conditioning: repairing and maintaining heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
- Electrical: making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures.
- Plumbing: repairing and replacing toilet bowls and seats, ball cock assemblies, lavatories and sinks, faucets and hardware. Repairing drain lines, hot and cold water lines and heating system piping. Repairing stoves, hot air and water heating systems.
- Carpentry: Replacing damaged or deteriorated walls. Fitting and installing windows and basic wood structures. Replacing broken floor boards, wall and floor tile. Building partitions, shelving, cabinets, counters and railings.
Qualifications
Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.
Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:
* Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT)
* Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
* Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
* Use of measuring instruments.
* Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)
* Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
* Knowledge of materials.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
