About the role
Duties
This position is located in the Operations and Maintenance Unit, Facilities Management Section of the Support Services Branch. The individual selected for this position will:
- Assist in the performance of all or a combination of the following tasks: Install, modify, maintain, and repair steam lines, sinks, basins, water closets, urinals, drinking fountains, soap dispensers, automatic fire sprinkler systems, and various other component parts.
- Install, modify, repair, and service piping which carries hot and cold water, gas, air, sewage, and drainage. Solder and/or caulk lead, tile, concrete, cast iron, brass, or copper piping and tubing.
- Inspect and test piping after repairs, alterations, or additions have been completed to determine if there is any leakage.
- Locate and tap main lines; set, place and cut route openings; install valves and traps for proper operation of plumbing systems; and set hangers, taking into consideration proper slopes and levels.
- Periodically make inspections of plumbing lines and fixtures for defective parts or connections.
- Assist in the performance of a combination or all of the following tasks: The planning and laying out of work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, or oral instructions. Erect, alter, repair, and/or remove partitions of wood, glass, metal, plastic, sheet rock, acoustical tile, or related materials.
- Repair or replace wood or metal window framing, doors, baseboards, moldings, transoms, and panels.
- Use various tools of the carpentry trade, including hand tools, hand powered tools and such powered shop tools as saws, planes and jointers.
- Assist in the performance of the necessary work to maintain and repair a variety of internal combustion gasoline engines, three diesel engine auxiliary generators, and a variety of small electric motor driven building maintenance equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs in accordance with Maintenance Management Program directives on a wide variety of equipment and other duties.
