Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Maintenance Equipment Operator for the Murray Developmental Center located in Centralia, Illinois to perform a variety of semiskilled manual tasks involving the operation of automotive and related maintenance equipment in connection with road maintenance or repair of grounds and buildings, repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery and other work of a general maintenance character. Receives assignments which are usually made in detail, often in the form of work orders.

Essential Functions

  • Performs a variety of semiskilled manual tasks involving the operation of automotive and related maintenance equipment in connection with road maintenance or repair of grounds and buildings, repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery and other work of a general maintenance character.
  • Transports food from dietary to the living units and school programs.
  • Schedules and maintains vehicles in good working condition.
  • Assists in the maintenance and minor repair of equipment.
  • Transports equipment, supplies and materials to and from work areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires one (1) year’s experience in performing a variety of semiskilled mechanical and manual tasks in the maintenance and operation of automotive or related maintenance equipment.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires a valid class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements, including passenger endorsement P and no automatic transmission only restriction E.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours
8:30am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday; 30-minute unpaid lunch.
