Position Description Title/PD #: Maintenance and Operations Supervisor #06839A
The incumbent serves as the Supervisor of the Maintenance and Operations Section of the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Engineering Service at the Nashville campus. Provides day-to-day supervision to first level supervisors of the plant operations and maintenance shops. The position requires the technical skills and experience of a general supervisor and also have the administrative skills to plan and coordinate maintenance; contract negotiations and solve both complex technical and administrative issues. Daily duties include but not limited are:
- Plans on a quarterly or longer basis the overall use of subordinate personnel and other resources under his/her control.
- Establishes deadlines, priorities and work sequences and plans work assignments based n general work schedules, methods and policies.
- Coordinates work with supporting or related work controlled by other Engineering section supervisors.
- Determines resource requirements, materials, and the number of subordinates and the types of skills necessary to accomplish long-range work schedules and projects.
- Allocates resources and distributes work to organizational segments or groups under his/her control.
- Redirects subordinates and resources to accomplish unanticipated work.
- Analyzes work plans developed by subordinate supervisors and monitors the status of their work in relation to the overall schedule requirements, including unanticipated requirements.
- Tracks and reports progress on work assignments.
- Provides information and advice to higher level supervisors, management officials and staff organizations on feasibility of work assignments as scheduled, budget estimates and workload data.
- Assigns work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors and sets deadlines and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed.
- Maintains balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers and other resources under their control.
- Prepares correspondence and reports as required.
- Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisor.
- Schedules leave of subordinate supervisors, reviews personnel actions, approves performance appraisals initiated by them.
- Recommends disciplinary actions; advises and counsels subordinates on how to improve their performance.
- Assures that subordinate supervisors effectively carry out policies to achieve management objectives.

Your background must demonstrate experience and possess the technical skills of a general supervisor and also have the administrative skills to plan and coordinate maintenance; contract negotiations; and solve both complex technical and administrative issues.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence of experience, which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position, must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.
